The mXa harness is to make the 2-step plug and play, you can either splice each individual coil pack yourself or use the mXa harness. It's not really a question of need but more of convenience, we do them in here when we are installing the 2-step since it cost about the same when you consider the couple hours of labor it takes to splice versus just using a plug and play harness.
